Report created by: Stacy Date: 11/02/2008 at 7:12 p.m. Subject: Update
David has been involved in a serious vehicle accident. His injuries include but are not limitted to: broken arm, broken neck (2 places) , spinal cord damage (extent unknown), 2 collapsed/bruised lungs, internal bleeding (minor), brain injury/bleeding (seems to be minor but is under careful watch). Beat up young man. The Dr's are prioritizing injuries and taking care of them in order of severity. As of now they have installed a shunt (drain) into his skull to relieve pressure on his brain, installed a shunt into his chest cavity to monitor/relieve internal bleeding, He has undergone emergency surgery on his broken neck to take pressure off the spinal column (one vertebrae has been dislocated and is pressuring the spinal column). He will wear a halo for some time to heal. His arm surgery is complete. He is showing signs of movement and reflex, but it is very early and we are hesitant to read too much into anything.
Please do not call the hospital for information as they cannot disclose any information regarding his condition. Call friends of the family and/or share this website with others. David and his family will have access to this site so feel free to leave encouragement for the family here.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. God is good and we are expectant of how He will reveal Himself through this. |

| Hello everyone David had a great night all of his vitals stayed the same and this is what we need, He is having a great day so far I just talked to one of his doctors and they are removing the vault or ICP line in davids head. He is still moving his arm and that is great he is doing more breathing on his own. I want everyone to know how much I appreciate all the support of everyone it means the world to me I am drawing strength from you all and then in turn giving it to david. Thanks so much.David is still in a coma and it will be up to david to come out but I assure all of you and he is fighting hard. When all of you come around we the family try to remember all your names and tell David about it his heart rate does go up and that is good we know he hears us. Again keep commenting and praying David needs it. Thanks. |
Report created by: Aunt Becky Date: 11/04/2008 at 7:30 p.m.
| David continues to be stable. They pulled out the ICP monitor this morning because the pressures in his head were normal. They also put in a feeding tube and started feeds today, they will go slow initially to make sure he can tolerate it. They are thinking of pulling the catheter that is monitoring his internal blood pressure tomorrow also because his pressures are good. They want to get rid of as much as they can to decrease his risk of infection. His organs are functioning normally, he is still on the ventilator occasionally breathing above the ventilator. He seems to hear us when we go in, his heart rate increases. He is showing a little movement with his right arm and hand, but still not very responsive. We just have to be patient and let him wake up when he is ready (the nurse today told us that there is no way to know how long that could be). We are praying that it will be soon, but asking God to help us accept His will. The family appreciates all the prayers, we can feel them. |

| Today David is having a not so good day, this is one of the days the nurses warned us about. He has been fighting a fever and they are having some problems with his breathing and regulating with the ventilator. They are doing everything they can and David is such a fighter. We appreciate your prayers and thanks to all. Please remember "David always wins". |

| Like Mom said today is one of the days they warned us against he is going to keep pushing through. Last night he did get a fever last night, they put some cold cloths on him and that seemed to help for a bit but today his fever is slowly creeping back up. We also are trying to figure out what is going on with his lungs and they are hoping that a tube just moved but we wont know until they get the x-rays and blood work back. He still seems to be in high spirits, I walked into his room this morning and the nurses had turned on Sports Center and I told him this morning that AI got traded and his heart rate went up. Leave it to David to be worried about the NBA and NFL. I just wanted to thank everyone so much for all the notes and prayers. If you want to bring motivational notes or pictures we are hanging those up in his room. Please don't bring flowers and balloons yet because they will not allow them back in his room yet. |

| David's day is going okay. He's still running a low grade fever but they don't think it is due to infection. It might just be neurological (related to the brain injury). They have been able to stabilize the ventilator, but you can tell he is getting uncomfortable with the tube down his throat. They are planning on taking him to surgery tomorrow to place a tracheostomy, or trach (a tube placed in the throat that goes directly to the trachea) . It will allow them to ventilate him, or breath for him better, and then they can remove the tube from his throat which will make him more comfortable. While he is in surgery they are also going to place a G-tube, gastrostomy tube, which is a feeding tube that goes directly into the stomach. This way they can pull the two tubes out of his nose, also making him more comfortable. They will just fit him in the schedule tomorrow, so we don't have a set time. We appreciate all the prayers, sometimes the unknown and the waiting can be the hardest part. David likes to win, but even better we serve a God that always wins, and we are trusting Him. |

David day was stable not lot of changes, he rested a lot today .They cleaned out his right lung This evening. The nurses said that his lungs were sounding better. Tammy called back to the nurses station to see if we could see David before shift change they said he was ok to come see but they put a hole in his nice air bed after cleaning out his lung. So they where trying to find him a new bed. DAVID ALWAYS WINS!!! Old Man |

David got his new air bed last night so we hope this one last longer. The nurse said that his lung look good last night. So they will not have to do the scope today. David is coughing more on his own so this helps get the stuff out of his lungs. Davids night last night was about the same his temp. is still a little high. They did get his oxygen down a little more.
Want to thank every body for their prayer, support and food. It so good to see the community come together and help in time of need. |

But when they did his chest x ray today they found his right lung had collapsed so they put a chest tube on his right side. | Hello, everyone today has been crazy day they took x-ray of David last night and did not like the looks of his lungs. They took him to get cat scan and they canceled our road trip to Children's cause they didn't want to move him. They had a specialist look at him and they decided to put in a chest tube again on the right side. So we have no idea when we will be going to children's but we are still planning to go anytime. On a good note this morning he had his eyes open and seemed more responsive to us. Please pray for Davids continued healing. |

Hello, David is doing well, he has had a couple problems with his food and him getting upset stomach. I have had a couple people ask about his condition David still has trach in so he does not speak, we do use yes and no cards and we ask him simple questions and he looks at cards. He has not purposely moved any of his arms or feet but his injury is incomplete and we believe he will someday. We are so excited to have him home and believe he loves being here. Hello, David has been doing so well he has had a couple of bad days here and there but overall he improves daily. There is a personal experience I want to share with all you, I know God has his plans for us. I am not working I spend my days and nights taking care of David and I am very happy to do it. Greg and Becky are a blessing also they come every night and give me a break I couldn't make it thru this without them both, who knew God would pull us together this way. My children have been extremely helpful also. Stacy and Mark when they are home and Levi and Chelle have been a godsend also. I love having Kailynn around too. My family has been super in everything they are always helpful and around when I need them. But what has been so amazing is my microwave broke and someone has replaced it, I needed a freezer and someone donated one, my dishwasher broke and a new one shows up also, and now my washer broke and today a washer and dryer showed up. I know some of the people who donated these things and some I don't. I hope to all of you who have helped in all the different ways that you know how thankful I am and may God bless you for your kindness, I am so blessed and through all this God revels himself in all ways. Thanks so much to all you who have helped us everything from food to help to visting us or any of the many gifts we have received. |

| Hello everyone, I am sorry I havent updated lately we have alot going on. David is doing well. We had a appointment last week at the Pearlmann Center it is a center that fits hadicap children with special needs equipment they do everything from wheelchairs to devices to communicate with and thats why we were there. We have been on waiting list for six months and finally got in. They hooked David up to devices that will allow him to type words in and a voice will say the word it is controlled by David moving his head to point the mouse he will be able to do his school work and go online and talk with us, He had choice of that kind or kind that when he moved his eyes it moved the mouse, he done much better with one that he moved head. He was so excited to use it he was mad when they told him it could take up to ninety days and hopefully medicaid will pay for it it cost between $7000.00 to 9,000.00 dollars. Also last week we had a swallow study done its where David swallows with radioactive stuff in it and they watch it go down. They were trying to see if any damage was done in that area plus they wanted to make sure none was going into his lungs, he did great and we now can feed him small bites of soft things. He is eating cheese Alot with should not surprise anyone. He loves company so if anyone wants to stop by give me a call 937-533-0166. Thanks for your prayers and support. |

Hello everyone, Today has been a rough day. It is so hard to believe it has been a year, David has been very quite today almost like he knew he should be sad. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for us today also say a extra prayer for Joes family as I know this time is hard on them also. David has been doing well in physical therphy on Mondays, they have been getting David on his knees and then laying him over a big peanut looking ball on his belly. He made it for 20 mins today which was the best he has done. Also, on Thurs therpy sessions they are using a tilt table which puts him in a standing position he made it to 60 degrees which is best he has ever done. We are waiting rather inpatiently to here from ear, nose and throat doctors as to when they will be doing scope, they seem to think the trachea area will bounce back into shape if we downsize trach. He is also eating small bites of different foods and seems to enjoy that and drinking small sips of Gaterade. We are waiting on info from building inspectors to start on Davids bathroom so hopefully start soon. Thanks to all of yu for all your prayer and support over the last year. I pray that each person that has reached out and helped us gets a blesssing in return. |
